Level 1 – Basic Implantology:

Foundational Live-Patient Implant Training for Dentists

Level 1 – Basic Implantology is the entry point into Med Dent EDU’s structured implant education pathway. This live-patient surgical course is designed for licensed dentists who want to begin placing implants with confidence or reinforce foundational surgical skills through real clinical execution.

Unlike lecture-based CE or simulation courses, Level 1 places dentists directly at the chair with live patients, under close faculty supervision. The focus is on building sound surgical judgment, disciplined technique, and repeatable workflows that translate immediately into everyday practice.

This course establishes the clinical foundation required to safely progress into more complex implant, sinus, and full-arch procedures.

Live-Patient Education Without Simulation or Observation

Level 1 training is delivered entirely through live-patient surgery. There are no typodonts, no simulated models, and no observation-only cases.

Each participant:

  • Works directly on live patients
  • Is assigned one chair with dedicated clinical support
  • Receives continuous chairside mentorship
  • Participates in real case planning and execution
  • Learns to manage intraoperative decisions in real time

This approach ensures that learning is practical, realistic, and directly transferable to private practice.

Core Clinical Skills Covered

Level 1 – Basic Implantology focuses on the essential skills required for predictable implant placement.

Training includes:

Emphasis is placed on understanding why decisions are made—not just how to perform the procedure.

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

  • Patient evaluation and case selection
  • Risk assessment and contraindications
  • CBCT interpretation for implant planning
  • Surgical anatomy relevant to implant placement

Surgical Execution

  • Flap design and soft tissue management
  • Osteotomy preparation protocols
  • Implant positioning and angulation
  • Achieving and evaluating primary stability
  • Suturing techniques and wound closure

Post-Operative Management

  • Immediate post-operative assessment
  • Healing expectations and complications
  • Prescription protocols
  • Occlusal considerations for implants

Mentorship-Driven Learning Environment

Courses are intentionally limited to three to four dentists to preserve a true mentorship experience. Faculty remain chairside throughout the procedure, providing guidance while allowing participants to develop independent clinical judgment.

Instruction is delivered by experienced implant clinicians who perform these procedures routinely in practice, not instructors who teach implants only in academic settings.
